Who we are
A national humanitarian and development organization based in Nyala, South Darfur.
Great Family Organization (GFO) is a national, non-profit organization, founded in January 2006 at HAC South Darfur State as a local CBO and registered as a national NGO in 2018.
We are determined to provide services to people affected by conflict and disaster, and to advocate for the protection of vulnerable populations, peace and trust building among IDPs, returnees and host communities.

Provision of humanitarian as well as developmental support to vulnerable people through a participatory approach that dignifies all concerned stakeholders.
Our mission
Deliver rapid emergency aid, drive recovery and development through peacebuilding and reconciliation, and build local capacity for sustainable self-livelihoods to empower conflict-affected communities.
Our goal
Contribute to the creation of a sustainable socio-economic well-being in a dignified manner to those in dire need for humanitarian and developmental support, including poor families, children, women, and people with special needs, particularly those affected by man-made and natural disasters.

What we do
- Develop rural communities that need to improve their educational, health, social, agricultural and livelihood situations.
- Assist communities affected by conflict and natural disasters.
- Provide integrated emergency support to improve food security and livelihoods in Darfur and our other areas of intervention.
- Train communities and IDP camps on environmental sanitation and keeping water clean.
- Contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality in urban and rural South Darfur.
- Stand for every child's right to education in conflict-affected areas of Sudan.
- Build trust and peace between conflict-affected communities.
- Advocate for the rights of children, women and persons with disabilities.

Our story
Milestones
- 2006Founded in January at HAC South Darfur State as a community-based organization.
- 2016Joined the CRS-led TaaDoud resilience consortium funded by UK aid.
- 2018Registered as a national NGO.
- 2025Delivering SHF-funded NFI assistance to 35,500 people with ALIGHT.
